About

The Patrick McCurdy Education Foundation was established in 2004 following the tragic deaths of Patrick McCurdy (40) and his daughter, Olivia (2) in a car accident on Highway 58 near Pleasant Hill. Patrick was a beloved guidance counselor at Pleasant Hill High School. He was the first mentor for Reaching Out Mentoring. He always had a group of students he worked with to help them see a future beyond high school, and they always had a friend in Patrick.

Katie Barr, Patrick’s wife, began the Foundation with a small group of family and friends who believed in mentoring and the need to pass on the legacy Patrick had built.

Reaching Out Mentoring began in 2005 with a small group of students at Pleasant Hill Middle School.  Today we serve over 120 students between the Pleasant Hill and South Lane School Districts (Cottage Grove). We operate three Mentor Centers: Pleasant Hill Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School and Cottage Grove High School.

Not only do we have adult mentors working with youth between grades three and twelve, we have high school age students mentoring youth in the first and second grades through our Pleasant Hill Buddy Program.
